The Beginning - D#1, HW#3

I often wondered what I could do to make a better place in this world for my family. Recently, I had a friend diagnosed with Leukemia and then told she has less than one year to live. What a wake up call! Through talking with friends and family, I have decided to go back to college to better myself. Some have asked me why so late in life? I already have a wonderful fiance, two beautiful daughters, a good job and a nice house. Why add the stress and the numerous hours of staying up late or getting up early to study, review and complete assignments, foregoing most social activities to ensure the learning process is happening? My answer is simple. I need and want to make a better place in this world for my family and myself. In order to accomplish this, I must better myself through learning all I can about the field I have chosen to pursue in my lifetime.

English was always one of my favorite and strongest subjects in school. I just completed English 101 and passed it with an A+ (Thank you Professor Massey!) I am now off and running (okay, maybe stumbling is a better word at the moment) with English 102. This course at first glance is overwhelming, however, I am determined to overcome my fears of failing by relying on my intuition, family, friends, fellow students in the class and last but definitely not least, my teacher (Shelley Rodrigo).

English 102 has already taught me new things and it's only the fourth day of the semester! I've never "blogged" before, so there's a first :) I didn't know Gmail existed with it's awesome tools and capabilities (including a great feature - the CALENDAR to keep track of assignment deadlines.) There are numerous websites to assist me with learning how to write correctly and professionally (Too many to list!) I hope to achieve the understanding I need to not only complete this course, but also to be able to write papers for my other courses in college and to better my communication skills for my current and future job(s).

The beginning is often the hardest, yet when completed, it's also the most rewarding...

Welcome to my journey ~
